Yełkaanenh T'eede Gaay which is a Native Alaskan language that translates to “Dawn Twilight Girl-Child.” Shackled to her chair by a seemingly endless string of pearls, the soloist’s elegant poise accentuated by her long white gloves, transforms the chair from a place of comfort to a heavy burden. The solo abstracts familiar gestures, postures and other acts of her cultural assimilation framing her shifting identity shaped by forced migration.
